Southern California, South Carolina ... It’s All The Same To Big East Refs

It was only a matter of time before this happened. We know how bad Pac-12 Big East refs have been, and at some point they were going to forget which teams belong to their own conference. But still, it doesn’t make it any less funny when the referee announces proudly that South Carolina recovered a fumble in a game between Southern California and Syracuse.

This was just the beginning of a bad night for the official, who stumbled through his assignment with plenty of comical errors.

The crowd in Los Angeles was clearly unhappy, feeling as though its team had been insulted by the South Carolina mistake. The boos rained down and why shouldn’t they have? After all, the referee had made the same mistake twice.

The referee has referred to USC as South Carolina twice. The Coliseum faithful are not pleased.

In addition to the Southern California/South Carolina mix-up, the referee also dropped a “no bullsh*t, guys” on a hot mic. In other words, just another standard night of Pac-12 officiating*.

*Edit: Corrected to reflect that it was a Big East crew who worked the game at The Coliseum. Apologies to Pac-12 refs, who now how company in awfulness.
