The No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies cruised to a 46-14 victory over the SMU Mustangs on Sunday evening, though they experienced a slight bump early in the second quarter. But the Aggies held the Mustangs scoreless for the final 44 minutes of the game.
SMU Vs. Texas A&M Final Score: Cyrus Gray, Ryan Tannehill Lead Aggies To 46-14 Victory
Texas A&M got off to a quick start by intercepting two Kyle Padron passes and turning each of them in a rushing touchdown on the ensuing drives. Mustangs head coach June Jones switched things up for the Aggies by taking Padron out and putting in J.J. McDermott, who led the team to a scoring drive. Zach Line put the ball in the end zone (after a 27-yard run) for the score, but it was McDermott who rifled a touchdown pass in the second quarter. That score brought the game to 20-14, the closest deficit the Mustangs had in the game.
Cyrus Gray led the Aggies running game with 132 yards on 21 carries. He scored his first touchdown after the second interception and followed that with a second one in the first quarter. His partner on the ground, Christine Michael, rushed for the first Aggies touchdown and added another one later in the second quarter.
The Aggies played a quieter game in the second half, scoring just 13 points. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw the second of his two touchdown passes in the second half, a 32-yard strike to Huston Prioleau.
Texas A&M stays at Kyle Field for next week's game against the Idaho Vandals.
