Miami vs. Maryland: Terps Hold Off Depleted Canes, Win 32-24

Nick Ferrara kicked a go-ahead 32-yard field goal with 1:39 to play, as Maryland held off a depleted Miami team, 32- 24, in their season and ACC opener.

The Hurricanes were driving after Ferrara's field goal and advanced near midfield, but the Terrapins' Cameron Chism intercepted Stephen Morris' pass and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown with 39 seconds left.

A missed extra point gave Miami a slim chance to tie the game, but Maryland's defense held to secure a victory in the debut of Randy Edsall.

Edsall left Connecticut this winter after 12 seasons to become head coach at Maryland (1-0, 1-0 ACC), replacing Ralph Friedgen and taking over a team that went 9-4 last season.

Miami (0-1, 0-1) also debuted a new head coach in Al Golden, who left Temple to accept the Hurricanes vacancy. However, he walked into controversy, as an investigation into the activities of former booster Nevin Shapiro led to the suspension of eight players, including starting quarterback Jacory Harris.
