Welcome back to another year of the SB Nation Community Mock Draft!

As we do every draft season, all 32 NFL sites at SB Nation come together to fill out an entire first-round mock draft leading up to the actual event that takes place from April 23-25. One by one, our site managers will make their picks and provide their reasoning behind the selection. From there, I will provide further analysis on top of giving a final opinion on the pick!

Without further ado, let’s get’s things rolling!

With the first overall pick in the 2026 SB Nation Community Mock Draft, Silver & Black Pride’s Matt Holder and the Las Vegas Raiders select Fernando Mendoza, quarterback, Indiana!

SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: With the 1st pick the Las Vegas Raiders select...

Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza (surprise!)

Since moving on from Derek Carr at the end of the 2022 season, the Raiders have had a different Week 1 starting quarterback every year. A big reason is that they haven't been in a position to draft the next future of the franchise. Now that Las Vegas owns the No. 1 overall pick, there's no need to overthink the selection or even entertain any trade offers. Plus, Mendoza's decision-making and accuracy make him a great fit in Klint Kubiak's offense, and the Heisman Trophy winner is already learning Kubiak's playbook.

My analysis: Raise your hand if you’re surprised by this one. No one? Yeah, that’s the type of pick this will be come draft weekend. The first overall pick has been known for essentially all of draft season, but it was solidified the moment Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy and the CFP National Championship.

Mendoza is the closest thing to a sure-thing future franchise quarterback in this draft as he possesses the entire package. He’s a leader in the locker room, he’s a winner on the field, and he’s completely selfless when it comes to distributing the ball and letting his guys make the plays necessary for the team to succeed.

The Raiders need stability at quarterback if they ever hope to climb out of the basement of the AFC West. This is the first step in what is (hopefully) the right direction.
