The last report concerning the injury to Brett Favre's ankle suggested he would try to practice on Friday. He has a pair of fractures in his ankle and there has been debate all week whether he would play on Sunday. Favre hasn't practiced all week and has indicated that a final decision will be made by him, head coach Brad Childress and the Vikings medical staff.
Brett Favre’s Ankle Injury May Keep Him Out; Vikings ‘Leaning Toward’ Tarvaris Jackson
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Childress is "learning towards" backup Tarvaris Jackson at this point.
According to an NFL source, Childress is leaning toward having Tarvaris Jackson open Sunday at quarterback -- a move that would end Favre’s NFL-record streak of 291 consecutive starts. Favre, who has played through numerous injuries during his 20-year NFL career, has “confided” in some close to him he’s not convinced Childress will let him play against New England, the NFL Network also reported Thursday night.
This would be surprising even with his ankle injury. In the same Star Tribune story offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell is quoted as saying it would be “surprising” if Favre can’t go. Even Favre said, “I wouldn’t put anything past me to be honest with you.”
So it sounds like there are definitely mixed messages going on here. The next step is determining whether Favre will practice on Friday and then the Vikings will issue their final injury report updating his status.
