Brett Favre To Start Against Patriots, Vikings Announce

Brett Favre’s streak of consecutive starts will survive for at least one more week.

The Vikings have announced that Favre is active and will start today’s game against the Patriots, extending his 296-game consecutive starts streak. Moreover, Favre will be able to throw to Randy Moss in the latter’s first game against the team that traded him to Minnesota this season.

Favre’s start isn’t particularly surprising after a week in which he went from a diagnosis of fractures in his foot to tentative interest in starting to a report on Saturday that he called ESPN’s Ed Werder and told him he expected to start for the Vikings.

It’s also likely to be part of the Favre legend, even if the NFL’s leader in interceptions — both all time and this season — struggles again. What is toughness if not a stubborn belief in being capable of greatness even in the face of copious evidence to the contrary, after all?
