Rex Ryan tried to get cute with a fake punt, and it backfired on his Jets. But it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.
Jets Vs. Packers: Fake Punt Backfires On Jets, Results In Packers Field Goal
Punter Steve Weatherford took off around end on a punt, and appeared to have gotten first down yardage, but a replay confirmed that his left foot was pushed out of bounds just before the sticks, and Green Bay took over in Jets territory.
The Packers couldn’t do much with the ball. Aaron Rodgers hit Greg Jennings over the middle for a big gain, but the drive stalled in the red zone, and Mason Crosby hit a short field goal for the Packers’ first lead of the day and the first points of what looks like it could be a low-scoring game.
Both Rodgers and Mark Sanchez have struggled early, firing errant passes and dealing with drops from receivers. But Sanchez is beginning to find his new favorite target, Santonio Holmes, and Holmes has three catches for 42 yards so far.
