NFL Week 8, Titans Vs. Chargers: Antonio Gates TD Re-Claims Lead For Desperate Chargers
The Gates score came after a holding penalty on Titans safety Michael Griffin negated his own 17-yard interception return for a touchdown. Mike Tolbert broke free for a 36-yard run to get the ball into Titans territory before Rivers connected with Gates for the go-ahead score.
San Diego has now scored 17 consecutive points to erase a 19-7 lead the Titans held in the second quarter. A 34-yard field goal from Kris Brown on San Diego’s first possession of the second half was sandwiched by a Mike Tolbert score late in the first half, along with Gates’ touchdown.
Tennessee takes over trailing for the first time since early in the second quarter, when a Craig Stevens score gave them a 12-7 lead. With just over 19 minutes remaining in this critical ballgame, we’re just waiting to see in which excruciating fashion the 2-5 Chargers will blow this game. Strap in, football fans - this should be a fairly entertaining fourth quarter.
