Aided by a personal foul and ejection from Tennessee Titans safety Donnie Nickey, the San Diego Chargers have extended their lead over the Titans to 33-25 on the strength of a 13-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers to Darren Sproles.
Titans Vs. Chargers: Darren Sproles TD Extends Chargers Lead To 33-25
Antonio Gates also had a crucial play on the drive, hauling in a 21-yard reception on third-and-11 to extend the drive.
Here’s the rub, however: San Diego’s much-maligned special teams unit - which already surrendered a safety in this game on a blocked punt in the first quarter - again made a critical mistake, with an aborted PAT after the Sproles touchdown thanks to a muffed snap. That keeps San Diego’s lead at eight, meaning it’s still a one-score game. Even when they’re playing very well, the Chargers keep finding ways to leave the door open for Vince Young and the Titans.
Young and the Titans will get the ball back, within one score, with just over six minutes to play.
