Trailing 33-25 to the San Diego Chargers in the fourth quarter, the Tennessee Titans and quarterback Vince Young were all set up for more of Young’s vintage late-game heroics.
Titans Vs. Chargers: With Vince Young Out, Kerry Collins Comeback Bid Falls Short
Then Young was knocked out of the game, helped off the field with just moments remaining in the fourth quarter. Kerry Collins came into the game, and very nearly pulled off the comeback bid anyway.
Collins led the Titans on two offensive series once Young was knocked out, with the second taking Tennessee all the way down to San Diego’s 15-yard line. That drive included a fourth-down conversion, with Collins finding Lavelle Hawkins for 10 yards on a fourth-and-six. A second fourth-down conversion attempt failed, however, with Collins throwing incomplete toward Chris Johnson to end Tennessee’s comeback bid.
A Philip Rivers kneel-down ended the game, and sealed up a much-needed win for the now 3-5 Chargers. Tennessee, meanwhile, falls to 5-3.
