Minnesota Vikings fans have seen the future -- and the they don't like it. Monday night's game between the Vikings and New York Giants went the way many expected with the Giants winning big, 21-3. The Vikings were without Brett Favre which meant Tarvaris Jackson started the game.
Brett Favre’s Consecutive Games Streak Ending Has Given Vikings Fans Glimpse Into Future
Now that Favre’s consecutive games streak has ended and we’re 99.9 percent sure he’s not coming back next year (though we’ve said that before), Vikings fans are looking to the future and it’s not looking very pretty. Here’s what SB Nation’s Daily Norseman has to say:
This loss was the ignominious ‘thud’ to a 2010 season that has been one of the weirdest, craziest, and flat out whacky seasons in the Vikings 50 year history. It was not supposed to be this way, but it is what it is. But in another sense, it has given us a glimpse into what the near future holds, and unless the Vikings can make some rather dramatic personnel changes in a single off-season, the future looks pretty uninspiring.
It’s unusual for a team to go through the quarterback transition the Vikings are likely to go through and continue to do well. Picking a quarterback is a total crapshoot -- like we have to tell that to the Vikings and their 2006 second round pick Tarvaris Jackson -- and there’s no telling which direction your team goes in once you get a new one.
If I’m a Vikings fan, do I trust the current management structure to pick the “next” Brett Favre, or at least the next Vikings QB? That’s a major task -- one evaluators fail at every year -- so I’m curious to see how the Vikings respond.
