With WR Malcom Floyd out, San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson was expected to make an impact tonight against the San Francisco 49ers. Jackson has backed up that prediction in a hurry, grabbing a jump ball from QB Philip Rivers and trotting in for a 58-yard touchdown, his first of the season and only his third catch.
49ers Vs. Chargers: Philip Rivers Bomb To Vincent Jackson In Malcom Floyd’s Absence
Tonight’s opening drive covered 74 yards in four plays, with Rivers also completing a nine-yard pass to TE Randy McMichael, himself likely to get a little more attention than usual due to TE Antonio Gates being sidelined. San Diego’s pair of runs didn’t amount to much.
The Niners are in a tough position early, playing from behind against a tough defense in a prime time road game. QB Alex Smith and company have moved the ball well in response, driving to a third-and-short near midfield before calling a time out.
