San Diego Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson is back with a vengeance, torching the San Francisco secondary for 91 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. After pulling down a jump-ball touchdown to start the game, Jackson capped the half with a second, this time sneaking free in the back of the end zone to haul in a Philip Rivers pass. The Chargers are in control, thanks in large part to Jackson, leading the 49ers, 17-0.
49ers Vs. Chargers: Vincent Jackson Scores Again As San Diego Defense Holds Strong
Even without tight end Antonio Gates, Rivers and the Chargers passing game has been as explosive as ever. Rivers completed passes to seven different receivers in the first half, finishing with 203 yards and two touchdowns. In the backfield, Mike Tolbert and Ryan Mathews combined for 62 yards on 16 carries.
While Jackson steals the show on the offensive end, the San Diego defense is holding the 49ers in check, limiting San Francisco to just 105 total yards thus far. Alex Smith has just 63 yards on 8-13 passing while facing the Chargers relentless pass rush. The running backs haven’t fared much better, with Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon combining for 49 yards on 12 carries.
