Our long national nightmare is finally over on Thursday Night Football. San Francisco 49ers running back Brian Westbrook found the end zone with 4:26 to go in the game to break the shutout and get the Niners on the board. Alex Smith found Josh Morgan for 36 yards, with an extra 15 tacked-on for a facemask, to setup the score. After struggling to move the ball all day against a tough San Diego defense, the 49ers put together a six play, 70 yard drive spanning just 3:12.
49ers Vs. Chargers: Brian Westbrook Finds The End Zone To Avoid The Shutout
The Chargers have all but conceded this game is over, pulling most of their starters on the drive before. Billy Volek is at the helm for San Diego, a sign the game is officially out of reach. Despite all that, the Chargers still drove the field for a field goal before San Francisco found the end zone, converting an Alex Smith interception on fourth down into three points.
With just minutes to go, the Chargers are cruising in what’s been a snoozer of a Thursday night game. San Diego leads San Francisco, 34-7.
