Terrell Owens is officially out for the season.
Terrell Owens Out For Season With Torn Meniscus, Will Try To Play In 2011
That’s what the Cincinnati Bengals’ team Twitter page tweets this afternoon after T.O. left today’s game against the Browns with an apparent knee injury. That injury has since been diagnosed as a torn meniscus, and it will keep him out of the Bengals’ last two games this season.
What that injury won’t do, it seems, is end Owens’ NFL career. The Bengals also tweeted that Owens said he will play in 2011, which seems both optimistic and noble. Knee injuries aren’t exactly stubbed toes, especially for a bulky wide receiver who would be entering his 16th NFL season, but Owens has proved to be especially resilient throughout his career.
Playing for another year might also help Owens reach some NFL records. He’s second all-time in receiving yards to Jerry Rice, and third in receiving touchdowns to Rice and Randy Moss.
Owens rebounded from a down year in Buffalo in 2009 with a resurgent 2010 campaign with the Bengals. He’ll finish just shy of 1,000 yards on the year, and caught nine touchdowns.
