NFL Playoff Scenarios: Falcons Clinch, But Saints And Eagles Have Shot At Home Field

The Atlanta Falcons punched their playoff ticket today with their win and the New York Giants loss. They’re in the lead in the home field advantage race, and can lock it up with either a win over the New Orleans Saints next week or the Carolina Panthers the following week. Both games are at home.

If the Falcons drop both and the Saints beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 17, New Orleans will jump from No. 5 to No. 1, swapping with the Falcons.

Eagles fans, here’s your rooting interest schedule: Saints next week, followed by Bucs and Panthers in week 17. This combination would give Philly a home field path to the Super Bowl — and could mean one or both of those NFC South dome teams would have to play a cold-weather outdoor game.

The Bears can secure a first-round bye if they’re able to tie the Eagles, as they hold the tiebreaker there.

The top of the NFC playoff picture basically comes down to three NFC South games, but there’s plenty of maneuvering left to do elsewhere. All four divisions are up for grabs with multiple division games left.
