After the firing of Mike Singletary, the San Francisco 49ers are going about the business of hiring a new long-term head coach, and team president Jed York has reportedly turned his attention to a couple of big names. According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, York is zeroing in on Jon Gruden and Jim Harbaugh.
49ers Interested In Coaches Jon Gruden, Jim Harbaugh, According To Report
Makes sense. It’s not wrong. Gruden and Harbaugh have to be the top candidates for the 49ers’ job and, I believe, under the right circumstances, both would be quite interested.
Kawakami reports that York’s first order of business is to hire a new general manager capable of bringing either Gruden or Harbaugh to San Francisco. The team has not filled the general manager position since Scot McCloughan left in April.
Gruden, 37, currently serves as an analyst for ESPN. Through 11 years of head coaching in the NFL, he’s amassed a 95-81 record and a Super Bowl championship with the Buccaneers. Gruden hasn’t coached since 2008.
