NFL Playoffs, Jets Vs. Patriots: Wes Welker Returns, New England Up 3-0 In First Quarter

The New England Patriots first offensive series, minus WR Wes Welker due to a foot-related suspension, ended with Tom Brady throwing his first interception in 340 attempts. Brady attempted to dump the ball to BenJarvus Green-Ellis while Calvin Pace pressured, with David Harris grabbing the ball and lumbering deep into Pats territory.

The Jets offense sputtered, Nick Folk missed a field goal that very, very barely missed the inside of the left pylon, and the Pats retook the field with Welker lined up.

New England strolled right back down the field to kick a field goal, with its three-headed running game good for 44 yards and Brady firing for 76 yards. TE Alge Crumpler caught a 28-yarder to set up the score, but couldn’t convert a chance to pull in a sure touchdown.

Toward the end of the scoring drive Welker caught a 10-yard pass to tremendous local approval.

Filling in for Brad Smith, Antonio Cromartie ran back a kickoff near midfield to set up the Jets next attempt.
