The New England Patriots are down only 21-14 with just under two minutes to go and two timeouts. The Pats needed a 26-yard drive to get within field goal range and tried to boot one off before the two-minute warning.
VIDEO: Shonn Greene Scores To Put Jets Up Over Patriots For Good
The Pats had the choice of whether to go for the onside kick or drill it deep and trust their defense. They went for the onside kick, with the ball shooting through the first wave of Jets special teamers as a Pats player collided with Darrelle Revis. Antonio Cromartie scooped up the ball and ran deep into Pats territory. Now even if New England is able to force a three-and-out, the Jets will still have a chance to kick a clinching field goal.
New York opted not to settle for a field goal, as Shonn Greene broke a 16-yard run off tackle to put the game all but out of reach. A 15-yard celebration penalty will keep New England’s hopes alive, but not by much.
