Carson Palmer drove the Cincinnati Bengals down to the Baltimore Ravens’ two-yard line with seconds remaining in the ball game, but an incomplete pass well over the head of Alvin Pearman on fourth down from that spot preserved a 13-7 win for the host Baltimore Ravens.
NFL Week 17 Scores And Results: Ravens Hang On For 13-7 Win Over Bengals
Cincinnati, trailing 13-0 in the fourth quarter, got a late score from Jerome Simpson to cut into Baltimore’s lead, but could not quite complete the comeback. They end their 2010 campaign with a 4-12 record.
Baltimore, meanwhile, got two Billy Cundiff field goals and a seven-yard touchdown rush from Ray Rice to build that aforementioned 13-0 lead. Though Baltimore’s offense struggled to get much going on this day, their vaunted defense came up big, forcing five Bengals turnovers (two Palmer interceptions, three fumble recoveries) to help keep the Bengals off the scoreboard.
With the win, the Ravens improve to 12-4 on the season. However, thanks to a thoroughly convincing win by the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens were denied an AFC North title. Instead, the Ravens will enter the NFL playoffs as the AFC’s fifth seed, where they will travel to take on either the winner of the AFC South or the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend.
