Christian Ponder Replaces Donovan McNabb, But Drive Ends With Vikings Turnover On Downs

Christian Ponder was made the starting quarterback of the future for the Minnesota Vikings when they selected him out of Florida State with the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Apparently the future is now for the Vikings as Leslie Frazier replaced Donovan McNabb with Ponder to start the fourth quarter of their Sunday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears.

The Vikings offense moved the ball well down the field, but with the scoreboard not in their favor, they were forced to go for it on fourth down and couldn’t convert, turning the ball over on downs.

McNabb finished his night due to a coach’s decision largely as a result of the 39-10 deficit on the scoreboard as opposed to his statistics against the Chicago defense as he completed 19 of his 24 passing attempts. Unfortunately those 19 passes resulted in just 177 yards as he continued to check it down rather than lead the offense down the field.

Ponder's first play of the game was an eight-yard rush for a first down, followed by another run that was called back due to a holding penalty, before eventually completing passes Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin and Michael Jenkins.

The drive eventually ended when Visanthe Shiancoe was unable to get to the first down marker on a fourth-and-medium play.
