In the meantime, we will have to wait and see how much Mendenhall participates in practice. If he is a full participant in practice, there would seem to be no reason to sit him this Sunday. However, limited or non-participation would raise enough question marks that you would find yourself looking at a potential game-time decision. If Mendenhall was available in an emergency situation this past Sunday, I would think he’ll be good to go a week later.

Speculation has come all week that Mendenhall would either be inactive or not play today. Last year’s breakout fantasy RB has been disappointing all year, tallying only 173 yards and two touchdowns in four games, running for only three yards per carry and less than 50 yards a game. Now, Mendenhall is, for all intents and purposes, sidelined with a hamstring injury. Anyone who’s dealt with a hamstring strain can tell you they’re the most frustrating to deal with because of their ability to linger, and completely, well, hamstring your ability.

It’s possible Mendenhall could return to practice and play in Week 5 but the team won’t know more until the first practice on Wednesday. From there, the Steelers will list his practice throughout the week before labeling him as out, doubtful, questionable or probable on Friday.
So it’s a big week for the Steelers as we await word on whether a pair of their best players will be available. Oh, and you can add Aaron Smith to the list as well. Tough game for the Steelers.

If Mendenhall is unavailable this coming Sunday, Redman and Moore would likely split up the workload. If you are have bye week issues either of them would be worth picking up in that instance. One problem with that is not knowing until after a normal Wednesday morning waiver period whether you need one of them. Someone may pounce to get ahead of you for Redman or Moore. Keep an eye out for news over the next 36 hours.
