Miami Dolphins Refuse To Budge In Talks With QB David Garrard

The Miami Dolphins talked to veteran free agent quarterback David Garrard earlier this week as part of their effort to find a replacement for Chad Henne, their injured starter. Talks fell apart when, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins would not go higher than the veteran minimum salary for Garrard.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter says David Garrard was ready to sign with the #Dolphins for $1 million. But MIA wouldn’t budge off the vet’s minimum.

The difference between the two sides is much closer than it seems. The veteran minimum can be up to $810,000 , but counts just $425,000 against the cap for teams.

Yesterday, there were whispers that the deal fell apart around the guaranteed money. Garrard, according to reports, rejected the deal because it did not guarantee his salary for the entire season. Despite their differences, Garrard and his agent left open the possibility of revisiting talks with the Dolphins.

Miami is still waiting to find out whether or not Henne’s shoulder injury, to his non-throwing shoulder, will end his season. In the meantime, the Dolphins have worked out other free agent quarterbacks, including Brodie Croyle and Trent Edwards.

In a late update, Schefter adds further that Garrard, Edwards, Croyle or Delhomme will not be joining the Dolphins.

Doesn't sound like Dolphins are going to sign Trent Edwards, Brodie Croyle, David Garrard or Jake Delhomme. So who's next?
