Neither the Indianapolis Colts nor the Kansas City Chiefs expected their seasons to start this way: last in their respective divisions. The Colts have fallen to 0-4 without Peyton Manning under center while the Chiefs picked up their first win of the season by defeating the now 0-4 Minnesota Vikings. But picking up their first win won't make the Chiefs favorites over the Colts this week.
NFL Odds And Lines Week 5: Chiefs Vs. Colts
Before late August, this matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Kansas City Chiefs would have been a top early battle. But injuries and all-around poor play makes this one of the lower-end games of the week.
Odds Shark opened the odds on this game at one point in favor of the home Colts. Bodog has moved to line to three points for the Colts, but either line doesn't put much confidence in the Colts being able to win this one. Curtis Painter is expected to start for the Colts, but his play hardly inspires confidence. And even if Kerry Collins did play, he's a lateral move at the position.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, witnessed a shouting match between quarterback Matt Cassel and coach Todd Haley during the first quarter against the Vikings. Cassel did have his moments, but he's still struggling. More importantly, the Chiefs need Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones to emerge as a replacement for Jamaal Charles. This competition is going into its third week.
