NFL Odds And Lines Week 5: Chargers Vs. Broncos

The 3-1 San Diego Chargers opened as six-point road favorites the 1-3 Denver Broncos.

Off to the rare hot start under head coach Norv Turner, the 3-1 San Diego Chargers opened as six-point road favorites over the 1-3 Denver Broncos, our partner Odds Shark shows.

Sunday will be the 103rd meeting between these AFC West rivals, with the Broncos holding a slight edge in the all-time series (54-47-1) that the Chargers have dominated over the last five seasons, winning eight of 10 meetings as the Broncos have transitioned from Mike Shanahan to Josh McDaniels to now John Fox at head coach.

While the Chargers are winning, quarterback Philip Rivers has struggled, turning the ball over six times and missing in the red zone as the team plays without perennial Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates, whose foot injury is expected to keep him for this week's game with the Broncos.

Rivers' counterpart, Kyle Orton, will be looking to play well early to keep the boo birds from coming out. While Orton is third in the AFC with eight touchdown passes, he thrown six interceptions and the team's red-zone inefficiency has fans clamoring for 2010 first-round pick Tim Tebow. Orton will facing a secondary that is expected to get Quentin Jammer back, though it's safety Eric Weddle that may keep Orton from throwing downfield. Weddle, who signed a five-year, $40 million contract in the offseason, has game-clinching interceptions in back-to-back games.
