NFL Odds And Lines Week 5: Titans Vs. Steelers

The Tennessee Titans will take on the Steelers in Pittsburgh as three-point underdogs. Both teams enter the game with plenty of questions on the offensive side of the ball.

The Tennessee Titans opened the week as 6½-point underdogs for their game at Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Since, the line has moved to around the 3-point mark, much of it due to speculation over Ben Roethlisberger's injured foot. He is expected to play, though just how effectively remains to be seen.

Compounding matters for the Steelers is a hamstring injury to Rashard Mendenhall. Keep an eye on his status, as he is expected to practice Thursday though to what extent is unknown. Isaac Redman has performed capably, but he isn't the talent that Mendenhall should be. Averaging just 16 points per game, the Steelers will have their work cut out for them against a stout Titans defense.

The Titans are tops in the NFL, giving up just 14 points per game. The front seven is proving to be one of the best in the league allowing just 87.75 yards a game, and an opportunistic secondary has allowed just one passing touchdown all season. Most encouraging for the Titans, however, has been the play of veteran Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback, who has thrown eight touchdowns to three interceptions on the year. That's a good thing too, as the running game has been downright anemic, averaging less than 67 yards a game.

The Steelers get the nod from oddsmakers due to a home field advantage and a better resume in terms of recent history. Otherwise, this has the looks of a pretty even matchup. For anyone betting the over-under set at around 40 points, note that the over has won six out of the last nine times these two teams have faced off.
