Fantasy Football Week 12: Running Down The Week’s Notable Performances

For the season, Brees now has 3,689 yards -- the guy averaged 335.3 yards each time he steps on the field. He’s thrown 27 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions.

Cruz wasn’t a completely unknown quantity before this season, as he had a fantastic 2010 preseason before injuries shut him down, but his stats have still been shocking thus far. Because of injuries, Cruz has gotten an opportunity to feature this season and has quickly become the Giants’ most productive receiver, recording 46 catches for 800 yards and five touchdowns coming into Week 12.

Tim Tebow has quietly become one of the better fantasy quarterbacks out there. He will not put up 300+ yards or throw for three our four touchdowns, but his ability to gain yards on the ground is a huge difference-maker. Add in the additional two points on rushing touchdowns (for 4-pt QB TD leagues), and he is able to get value where most quarterbacks cannot.

Bowe is still the Chiefs’ main weapon in the passing game, so he should continue to see a ton of targets. He hasn’t had a touchdown since Week 6, however, largely thanks to the Kansas City’s struggles all-around on offense.

This was Johnson’s third 100-yard rushing game of the season, but he has been unable to establish any sort of consistency. Two weeks ago he rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown and everybody thought he was back. Last week he rushed 12 times for 13 yards, this week 190 yards.

Wells has been dealing with a right knee injury that has slowed him for much of the season. He opened the season incredibly strong, rushing for 323 yards and five touchdowns through the first three games. Unfortunately he had issues with his knee at that point and missed a week. He came back October 2 and has played in every game since, but he has lacked his early season explosion. Although the Rams are a fairly bad team, it is a great sign to see Wells explode like this.

Prior to this week’s game, Dalton had completed 59.3 percent of his 332 passing attempts for 2,239 yards. He had 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions prior to this week’s game. Fake Teams, SB Nation’s fantasy sports site, ranked Dalton 24th on their quarterback rankings for week 12.

Tebow did not throw a touchdown pass last week. He did score on the ground for the second week in a row, and he has done considerable damage to opposing defenses with his legs and the read option offense. Through eight games played prior to this week, Tebow had 709 passing yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. On the ground, Tebow has carried the ball 56 times for 388 yards and three touchdowns.

Heading into this game, Brady had thrown for 3,266 yards, 25 touchdowns and ten interceptions. Fake Teams, SB Nation’s fantasy sports site, ranked Brady as their fourth-best quarterback for week 12. Brady figures to be a key fantasy contributor as the season chugs toward the playoffs. Following this game, New England faces off against Indianapolis, Washing, Denver and Miami over their next four games.

Despite those four interceptions, Newton did rush for two touchdowns, giving him a rookie record-breaking nine rushing touchdowns for season, prior to this week’s game. Newton has 2,885 passing yards to go with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Fake Teams ranked Newton fifth among all quarterbacks on their week 12 rankings list.

McCoy has hardly been pillar for fantasy football general managers. Despite a few glimpses of promise as a rookie, there figures to be a healthy debate about his future as the Browns’ starting quarterback after this season. McCoy has at least been healthy, starting all of the Browns’ games this season.

A tough matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals defense hardly seemed like the week that he would finally get things going in Cleveland’s talent-starved offense. However, in the season opener against the Bengals, McCoy completed 19 of 40 passes for 213 yards, two touchdowns and one interceptions. Prior to week 12, McCoy had 2,181 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. McCoy was ranked 26th on the week 12 quarterback rankings by Fake Teams.

Freeman was all set for a big season this year after a breakout performance with 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 16 starts last season. His second year has been a little more difficult. Freeman has already thrown 18 picks, and the Buccaneers are struggling.

Prior to this week’s game against the Tennessee Titans, Freeman had completed a total of 236 passes in 378 attempts. His 62.4 percent completion percentage does at least bode well for his future. Freeman had 2,516 passing yards and 11 touchdowns through week 11.

Hasselbeck had thrown one interception before leaving the game. He had four touchdowns and three interceptions in three games prior to that, despite the lack of contributions from running back Chris Johnson. Prior to week 12, Hasselbeck had 2,357 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Fitzpatrick failed to complete a touchdown pass for just the second time this season in week 11. A week 12 matchup against the Jets looked even more daunting for his production. The Harvard product had a big start to the season, but things seem to be slowing down.

Heading into week 12, Fitzpatrick had 2,285 passing yards, 16 touchdown and 14 interceptions. Fake Teams, SB Nation’s fantasy sports site, ranked Fitzpatrick 32nd on their quarterback rankings for week 12.

Leading into week 12, Sanchez had completed 193 of 338 passes, for a 57.1 completion percentage. He had 14 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also had three rushing touchdowns prior to this game. Fake Teams, SB Nation’s fantasy spots site, has Sanchez ranked 15th in their week 12 quarterback rankings.

As teams figure out their Week 12 fantasy football lineups, there are some intriguing sleeper options available. When it comes to wide receivers it is a roll of the dice without the normal top guys because targets can change so drastically from week to week. Nonetheless, there are solid options available:

Fantasy football playoffs are only a couple weeks away, which means teams are scrambling through last minute sit/start decisions, hoping to find the best sleepers still on the market or on their bench:

Toby Gerhart, Vikings: He was a big waiver wire pick-up and is worth a start with Adrian Peterson on the sideline. Gerhart is not the best running back in the NFL, but he is going to get a lot of carries as the number one back. That is not something most bench/free agent options can guarantee.

Week 12 of the NFL season is three games in following the Thanksgiving tripleheader, but now we get the main course. A lot of great talent played on Thursday, but there are plenty of big names remaining. Some fantasy teams have had upwards of half their players go already, but most contests remain up for grabs heading into Sunday.

If you are coming out of the last byes with question marks at the QB position, there are still some sleepers out there. The best options are likely already acquired, but we have a few sleepers worth considering:

RB Ryan Grant, GB: Situational Start - He’s only a slightly better option than Starks as this could turn into an aerial battle. If you need some help at Flex or RB2, Grant is a decent start, but not particularly great.
