Bills running back Fred Jackson will miss this weekend's game against the Jets -- and may be done for the rest of the year, Chan Gailey said Wednesday, according to the Buffalo News. Jackson suffered a bruised calf in last week's loss to the Dolphins.
Fred Jackson Injury: Bills RB Out This Week, Could Miss Rest Of Season
“Fred’s not good, and I know he’ll miss this one,” Gailey said. “Then we’ll have to decide what happens from there.”
When asked if Jackson might return before the end of the season, Gailey was noncommittal. “I don’t know about that,” he said. “We’ll have to wait and see.”
Losing Jackson is a blow to the struggling Bills. He left last week’s game with just seven carries for 17 yards. Prior to that, he was averaging more than 100 rushing yards per game. Jackson has 934 rushing yards on 170 carries with six touchdowns.
As for Jackson's replacement, C.J. Spiller will be pressed into duty. Spiller, a first-round pick in 2010, has just 21 rushing attempts this season. He carried the ball three times last week with the Bills playing from behind. Rookie running back Johnny White will be available in a supporting role for the Bills' offense.
