Picture a man who one day in training camp vows to help his team win a championship by any means necessary, then another day is suspended for punting balls out of practice and refusing to catch passes thrown his way. A man whose reputation as one of the NFL’s most generous contributors to charities is rivaled only by his having compiled one of its most notorious rap sheets. A man who is considered by some reporters one of the league’s most enjoyable interviews, by others its most stressful.
As telling as these images are, they explain only part of the story of an individual suffering from borderline personality disorder, a condition Marshall has struggled with throughout his five-year NFL career.

“By no means am I all healed or fixed, but it’s like a light bulbs been turned on in my dark room,” Marshall said of the diagnosis.
Marshall underwent sessions over the phone and occasional in-person visits, but following an altercation with his wife, Marshall stepped up his treatments. Marshall spent nearly three months in the Boston area, undergoing several hours of meetings each day with clinicians and fellow BPD patients learning how to process his emotions.

Marshall talked with police after a subpoena had been issued in his name. What had held up Marshall’s statement was a no-contact order placed on his wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall. It had been put in place after the alleged April 22 incident in which she stabbed him in the stomach with a kitchen knife.

Brandon Marshall was stabbed Friday and is in intensive care in a Miami hospital, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Marshall’s wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, was arrested Friday on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Marshall had runs of trouble in Denver, and has been arrested for DUI, domestic abuse and battery in the past. It is unclear what led to this incident, and it has yet to be confirmed Nogami-Marshall’s arrest is related to Marshall’s injury. Marshall is one of the most physically talented wide receivers in the NFL, but wore out his welcome in Denver. After being traded to Dolphins last April, he signed a four-year, $47.5 million contract.
