Kevin Kolb Trade From Eagles Could Be Based Off Of Matt Schaub Trade

Kevin Kolb meet Matt Schaub. You two could be more connected than you ever realized.

I say that because there's some chatter that the template that will be used if the Philadelphia Eagles trade Kolb is the Schaub trade from the Atlanta Falcons to Houston Texans four years ago. That included the Texans sending the Falcons two second round picks (and swapping first round picks) as well as signing Schaub to an eight-year, $48 million contract.

As Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic points out, the two Michael Vick backups have similar situations.

Kolb is in a situation eerily similar to that of Schaub in 2007. Kolb turns 27 in August, and Like Schaub, he’s playing behind Vick. Like Schaub, Kolb’s team wants to trade him. Like Schaub, Kolb is unproven. He’s played in 19 games in four years, including seven starts over the last two.

So it makes sense then that the template for a Kolb trade would be the one that was used for Schaub.

If the price was actually two second round picks, I think the Cardinals would be interested. In fact, I don't think the Cardinals would be the only team interested and, as we've learned, the more teams honing in on one player the higher the price goes.

So I would be somewhat surprised if just two second round picks was the price. In a market like this where player movement is minimized due to the lockout, I could see Kolb’s price tag being driven higher, to a package that includes a first round pick.

Check out Bleeding Green Nation for more on the Eagles plans of trading Kolb.
