Despite never becoming the standout No. 1 wide receiver many thought he’d be in the NFL, Braylon Edwards is still a solid receiving option and one of the top offensive free agents on the 2011 off-season market with the lockout coming to an end.
2011 NFL Free Agents: Braylon Edwards Could Be Leaving New York
There still seems to be a decent chance that Edwards will stick around in New York with the Jets. He has, after all, formed a decent partnership with Mark Sanchez, and if he agrees to take a pay cut could be a useful player. Assuming he leaves, though, here are some of the places he could best fit:
Washington Redskins: Daniel Snyder doesn't mind spending money and has a soft spot for players his friends will have heard of, meaning someone like Edwards is always on his radar. Throw in the fact that the Redskins don't really have any big receivers and maybe Edwards could fit in nicely alongside Santana Moss.
St. Louis Rams: If Edwards hadn't been the No. 3 overall pick, his production would be considered downright Flipper Anderson-esque (look it up), making him a natural fit on the Rams. They also happen to have an extreme need for a wide receiver who has proven himself, and Edwards would have a far more impressive resume than anyone on their current roster.
Baltimore Ravens: On a talent alone, the Ravens don't seem to have much need at wide receiver. Edwards could end up being anywhere from their No. 1 to No. 5 receiver on this team. But no one is the kind of player you can just plug numbers into, meaning they will need to have plenty of options. With guys like Donte Stallworth, Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh already on the roster, this would easily be the most interesting receiving corps. in the league.
