2011 NFL Free Agency Rumors: Santonio Holmes Is Redskins ‘No. 1 Priority’

Sounds like WR Santonio Holmes will be a sought-after man once free agency hits later this week. According to various reports, both the New York Jets and Washington Redskins have made Holmes their top priority

For Holmes, this is great news because all it will do is drive up his value.

As SB Nation DC notes, there are a lot of “moving parts” with both teams.

The Jets also have Braylon Edwards to deal with as a free agent, which may divert their attention. On the Redskins' side, Santana Moss is a free agent, and the team will have to decide whether keeping him is more of a priority than going after Holmes.

The Jets, in my mind, may be the better fit. They’re clearly a team that’s ready to win the Super Bowl right now and lots of players have talked about how great it is playing for Rex Ryan. I imagine he’d want to stay there if all things were equal. However, if the Redskins come calling with a boatload of cash...it’d be hard to say no.

We should find out later this week. Teams can reportedly begin speaking with free agents on Tuesday and start signing them on Friday.
