Nnamdi Asomugha Free Agency Rumors Continue; 49ers, Jets Leading Charge

The latest NFL free agency rumors involving CB Nnamdi Asomugha include three teams -- New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans.

We know the Jets are getting “serious” with their Asomugha talks. Now NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports that the 49ers are “in it strong” as well. Per multiple reports, the Texans are believed to be making a push as well but, according to Lombardi, the top two contenders are the Jets and 49ers.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee notes the ties between Asomugha and the Bay Area.

Lombardi reports that at this point the Jets and 49ers are the main competitors for Asomugha's services. The Texans also are expected to make a run. Asomugha, 30, has strong Bay Area ties, which could favor the 49ers. He was drafted by the Raiders in 2003 and played collegiately at Cal. He grew up in Southern California.

Asomugha is clearly the top free agent on the market and should command a massive contract topping $15 million per year, according to various reports. He would be a big boost for any team, especially the Jets with CB Darrelle Revis already in-house.
