Still in search of a true No. 1 wide receiver for second-year quarterback Sam Bradford, the NFL rumor mill is suggesting the St. Louis Rams are after Sidney Rice. The rumor appears to come from John Clayton, who mentioned on SportsCenter that the Rams are among the possible landing spots for Rice. The Seattle Seahawks are also supposedly among the team pursuing Rice.
NFL Free Agency Rumors: Rams Also Pursuing Sidney Rice
Rice is among the top wide receivers on the free agent market after coming off a pair of solid seasons. In 2009, he emerged as a starter for the Minnesota Vikings, making 83 catches for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns. He suffered an injury in the playoffs and eventually missed 10 games of the 2010 season. In six games, he made 17 catches for 280 yards, a 16.5 yard per catch average. He also scored a pair of touchdowns.
The Turf Show Times had this to say about the 6-foot-4 fifth-year receiver:
Be advised that this does not mean the Rams will sign Rice. Not at all. In fact, in could be a tool to drive up his price for the Seahawks...maybe enough to shake Brandon Mebane loose by forcing them to spend all their money on Rice. That's almost more Machiavellian than I can imagine though...and not a guarantee to work. Just talk.
