NFL Free Agency Rumors: Antonio Cromartie To ... Raiders?

With the Oakland Raiders losing cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to free agency, who might the team turn to fill that void? According to the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Raiders may turn to Antonio Cromartie. They would be no strangers to him, as Cromartie played the first four years of his career with the San Diego Chargers.

Cromartie exploded onto the NFL scene in 2007 when he had a league-high 10 interceptions. Over the last three he has totaled eight picks, three last year with the Jets. Interestingly, Asomugha is now one of the top free agent targets by the Jets.

Silver and Black Pride, our Raiders blog, is tempering its excitement over this possible acquisition, though:

My excitement over this move would be dependent upon how much they signed him for, and who his signing precluded the Raiders from getting. I would much rather have Jared Gaither or Dashon Goldson added to the roster than Cromartie.

But whatever happens, the Raiders’ secondary will still suffer a setback with the loss of Asomugha.
