The Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes roll on for another day in this young NFL free agency period. The last bit of news on Asomugha had the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets in the lead for his services.

The latest, though, from NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, is that the Houston Texans have jumped into the lead.

Asomugha is the most coveted free agent on the market and he’ll be signing a major deal someplace. The Jets reportedly are serious about their interest in him and have even contacted several players about restructuring their contract to fit Asomugha. They don’t need to be under the salary cap until the start of the league year, believed to be Aug. 4, so New York would have some time to move things around if they could get him.
The Texans make a lot of sense for Asomugha, too. The former Raider is one of the few cornerbacks that can contain Texans WR Andre Johnson so it makes sense to bring him onto your team. That, and the Texans pass defense was pretty bad last season.
So will it be the Texans? Or the 49ers or Jets? Time will tell in the Asomugha sweepstakes.
