Multiple sources at 49ers training camp are reporting defensive line coach Jim Tomsula told Isaac Sopoaga he would be the starting nose tackle in 2011. Although Tomsula is well known as a motivational kind of guy, it's probably safe to conclude from this news that Sopoaga is in fact the starter and more importantly, Aubrayo Franklin likely will not be returning to San Francisco.
NFL Free Agency Rumors: Aubrayo Franklin Out After Isaac Sopoaga Named 49ers Starter?
News on Franklin’s free agency future has been virtually non-existent, which is rather surprising given the fact that he is one of the more high-profile options on the free agent market. When nothing is being said on Twitter about a player, it makes you wonder what is going on. Even a little speculation would be better than nothing.
At the very least San Francisco is likely out of the picture. After signing Ray McDonald to a sizable contract extension that paid him defensive end starter money, it is not surprising that the team will move Sopoaga into the middle. Ricky Jean-Francois will likely rotate in as well.
