Plaxico Burress Formally Reinstated By Roger Goodell

John Clayton writes that former Giants and Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been reinstated to the NFL, meaning that he's free to visit his former teams.

Let’s hope he signs somewhere soon, because the amount of text that’s been spewed about Burress this offseason is way out of proportion with what I have to imagine is his current level of talent. The guy is about to turn 34, and he hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2008 season.

On top of that, the fact that he's visiting his former teams confuses me. He had a stormy relationship with Giants coach Tom Coughlin the last time he was there. And the Steelers simply don't need him, since they already have four good receivers in Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. I suppose there's no harm in either team signing Burress cheaply if they're willing to let him go if his attitude - or his play - becomes a problem. But at this point, it's not clear to me why either team would bother.
