Nnamdi Asomugha, Jets Continue Flirting; Texans May Be Out

The biggest name on the NFL free agency market is CB Nnamdi Asomugha and the momentum right now is pointing to the New York Jets. It's far from a done deal but the front-runner right now is the Jets, especially after the Houston Texans signed CB Johnathan Joseph to a five-year deal putting them out of the Asomugha sweepstakes.

Per reports, the two other competing teams are the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers released CB Nate Clements this week clearing up over $15 million in cap space and the Cowboys have been doing the same with a number of veterans.

The Jets were reportedly working through the night in negotiations with Asomugha and it’s unclear where they stand on that.

“We’re trying to get an answer out of him, one way or another,” a source told the Daily News.

So is the rest of the football world. Asomugha’s deal could be in the $12-14 million range and it will require the Jets to restructure at least a couple of existing contracts on the team.

Can the Jets go get the biggest name on the market? It’s certainly looking that way. We’ll see how this thing turns out.
