Nnamdi Asomugha Free Agency Rumors Continue As Jets Clear Cap Space

The Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes are reportedly down to the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reported that the San Francisco 49ers were out and it's down to the Jets and Cowboys. No word yet on who has the lead but the Jets are apparently making preparations for Asomugha.

They’ve released QB Mark Brunell and QB Kevin O’Connell. Follow-up reports suggest that those moves were made to create the cap space in the chance that they can get Asomugha.

Teams have to be under the salary cap by the start of the league year, which could come on Aug. 4 so they have some time but it appears they’re preparing for a big signing.

Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News reports that Asomugha’s decision isn’t all about money -- he wants to win a Super Bowl. Both the Cowboys and Jets are legitimate Super Bowl contenders, if you ask me, although the Jets may have a slight edge in that category.

The clock is ticking on the Asomugha sweepstakes. Sounds like it’ll be Big D or the Big Apple. Keep an eye on Blogging The Boys and Gang Green Nation for the latest.
