Nnamdi Asomugha has reportedly signed a five-year, $60 million contract that includes $25 million in guaranteed money. The deal is worth considerably less than many had speculated he could demand.
Nnamdi Asomugha Contract With Philadelphia Eagles Worth $60 Million Over 5 Years
According to ESPN's John Clayton, Asomugha was previously making $15 million a year and this new deal is worth about $3 million less per season. Asomugha was one of the top free agents on the market, and this moves seems to suggest he was more interested in finding the right place to play, rather than the team that could pay him the most money. He will join a secondary that includes Asante Samuel and the recently acquired Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Eagles had the second best passing defense in 2010.
The Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets were both among the teams widely believed to have been seeking Asomugha's services. The Jets, in particular, seemed to focus much of their attention on acquiring the corner back.
