While they fight for the services of cornerback Antonio Cromartie with the Oakland Raiders, the New York Jets have a Plan B in the works. According to John Clayton, the Jets worked out former Redskins DB Phillip Buchanan on Sunday.
NFL Free Agency Rumors: Jets Work Out DB Phillip Buchanon
The 10-year veteran recorded 49 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles for the Washington Redskins last season. He recently ended his relationship with Drew Rosenhaus and has hired Joel Segal.
Jets blog Gang Green Nation isn’t doing cartwheels over the possible move.
I can't say this move would excite me terribly. Buchanon is not anything special. If memory serves, he was at his best in Monte Kiffin's zone based scheme, which is not really what the Jets do. He's not terrible, though. If he was fourth on the depth chart behind Darrelle Revis, Cromartie (or some other starter), and Wilson, I would not complain.
