The Osi Umenyiora situation with the New York Giants is getting a little more interesting. Umenyiora has wanted a trade or a new contract from the Giants but neither has happened yet. According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, he now has permission to seek a trade.
Giants Give Osi Umenyiora Permission To Seek Trade, According To Report
Paolantonio reportsUmenyiora and his agent began contacting teams on Monday morning. Reportedly, the Giants are seeking at least a first round pick in return for the 29-year old defensive end. It's been rumored that Umenyiora would like to go to the Seattle Seahawks. The Baltimore Ravens are also a team that's been thrown out there as a possibility.
The problem with acquiring Umenyiora is two-fold. First, it’s going to cost a lot -- a first round pick. We don’t see a lot of trades involving first round picks so that’s the first hurdle. The second hurdle is getting him a new contract and defensive ends aren’t cheap so it would be a big deal.
Umenyiora signed a seven-year deal in 2005 so he has two years remaining on his current contract.
Plenty of teams are likely interested in him but his market will dwindle a little bit at that price. Check out Big Blue View for the latest updates on what the Giants will do with Umenyiora.
