The 49ers and Raiders have decided not to continue playing their annual preseason game after several acts of fan violence, including a shooting, following last weekend’s game.

This is the best outcome for both sides. Unfortunately, a small percentage of the fans at Candlestick Park last weekend created a situation that simply wasn’t safe for anyone. A few bad apples ruins it for the bunch.
The 49ers announced that they would be stiffening up the security around the stadium following last weekend’s incidents.

If 18 regular season games would make the world safer, just imagine how safe you’d feel if there were 20 regular season NFL games per year. Why not 22!

The report says both the Raiders and 49ers front offices have discussed ending the game while the NFL and local police are in support of ending it.
It’s a situation where a small percentage of those in attendance are ruining it for everyone. That said, the best (and safest) move appears to simply end the games between the two teams.

Police are still searching for suspects, but San Fransisco Mayor Edwin Lee and police Sgt. Mike Andraychak provided conflicting information to the media on Sunday. Lee said that he believed suspects were in custody, but Andraychak contradicted that statement, claiming he had no information on any arrests.
On Sunday, the mayors of Oakland and San Fransisco issued a joint statement condemning the violence at Candlestick Park and at sporting events in general.

Raiders-49ers Game Ends With Parking Lot Shooting, Injuring Two
According to SB Nation Bay Area editor David Fucillo, tensions had been high during the game, with fights breaking out in the stands at times.
There’s simply no reason for a sporting event to ever end in violence. It’s senseless and pointless. Despite the heated nature of some rivalries, including the one between the Niners and Raiders, the battle on the field should never spill over into the stands, nor the parking lot after all is said and done.
