Raiders-49ers Game Ends With Parking Lot Shooting, Injuring Two

Gunfire erupted in the parking lot following the preseason rivalry matchup between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers. Two men were injured in the shooting.

The NFL preseason rivalry game between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers ended in gunfire on Saturday night, injuring two. Following the 49ers 17-3 win over the Raiders at Candlestick Park, two men were shot in the parking lot, with one suffering life-threatening injuries and the other expected to survive his injuries. Both men were taken to the hospital following the incident, which marred the traditional rivalry game between the two Bay Area teams.

According to SB Nation Bay Area editor David Fucillo, tensions had been high during the game, with fights breaking out in the stands at times.

This followed a game in which numerous fights broke out in the stands and police were called into action throughout the game. Although most fans generally have a good time at the game, there are enough knuckleheads in attendance (supporting EITHER team) that problems get started.

There’s simply no reason for a sporting event to ever end in violence. It’s senseless and pointless. Despite the heated nature of some rivalries, including the one between the Niners and Raiders, the battle on the field should never spill over into the stands, nor the parking lot after all is said and done.

We’ll have more on the shooting at Candlestick Park as it becomes available. For the latest on the game, head over to SB Nation Bay Area.
