Social scientist Ray Lewis and his associate Mike Florio are reportedly impressed with the research done by San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York, who sort of partially attributed the violence that struck a Niners-Raiders preseason game to the NFL's lengthy preseason schedule:
49ers-Raiders Violence Could’ve Been Prevented By Playing Football Forever
“I think when you have a preseason game, when you don’t have your regular-season ticket holders coming to the game, I think that plays a big factor into it,” York said. He said that’s another reason why the NFL wants to eliminate some preseason games in favor of 18 regular-season games.
Ugh.
If 18 regular season games would make the world safer, just imagine how safe you’d feel if there were 20 regular season NFL games per year. Why not 22!
In fact, it’s irresponsible of the NFL not to schedule at least 27 games every calendar year, ensuring most of every year is free of violence. The NFL could make the world a pretty great place if it would just never, ever stop putting on football games.
