It’s rare that the expert community comes together in the kind of unanimity that seems to be coalescing around the Washington Redskins this week. That these people seem to be so impressed by a team led by none other than Rex Grossman is a bit of a shock to the system.
NFL Picks Week 2: Cardinals Vs. Redskins
The reason? Well, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King seems to sum it up almost perfectly while picking the Redskins to win 30-24:
Cam Newton strafed the Cards for 422 yards. Fill in the blank: Rex Grossman will throw for ___ yards as the Redskins, relevant for the first time in years in the NFC East, start 2-0.
It’s true, that Cardinals defense does look pretty darn suspect. They’ve been strafed by injuries in their secondary and looked rather helpless in allowing Newton to run the Panthers up and down the field in Week 1.
King has plenty of support in his line of thinking. Seven of ESPN’s human experts and both of their computers like the Redskins, four of CBS Sports’ five experts picked Washington and even our own Andrew Sharp seems to believe in Grossman just enough.
The real question now seems to be are Merrill Hoge and Mike Freeman just going against common wisdom or do they know something the rest of us don’t?
