The second week of the 2011 NFL season is here and highlighted by the Saints hosting the Bears and the Chargers visiting the Patriots.
NFL Picks Week 2: Packers Vs. Panthers
Yahoo! Sports hadn’t submitted their Week 2 picks when this article was being published, but luckily SB Nation’s Andrew Sharp has submitted his Week 2 NFL picks. Sharp went with the Packers, but gave some wise advice after noting the fact that people are still skeptical of Newton -- despite his Week 1 performance.
The group over at ESPN, from Merril Hoge to Chris Mortensen to their Accuscore computer pick’em system, has decided that the the away team will leave Carolina with a victory as they all decided to pick the Packers -- one of nine games the World Wide Leader’s crew was unanimous in picking.

Getty ImagesNFL Network’s Albert Breer raises a salient point while picking the Ravens to win a close one. Will there be a hangover effect from their win last week?
ESPN’s panel of experts all picked the Ravens, as well as Andrew Sharp from SB Nation.

Getty ImagesAlbert Breer predicts a 38-3 game, meaning it would be, for all intents and purposes, over by the end of the first quarter. Peter King is more charitable, giving Seattle 7 points in 27-7 loss. Not even the network censors can sway Ron Jaworski and the other pickers at ESPN to deviate in their predictions.
Only Pete Prisco from CBS sees a score within the fifteen point margin, pulling 27-17 out of the envelope. Here’s Prisco:

He sees Collins as the key to a 21-16 Colts win.
Peter King says the Colts are in “disarray” and predicts a Browns win. Andrew Sharp piles on the Colts misfortunes and sees a Browns win as well. Three ESPN experts pick the Browns, but Bristol’s super computers both pick the Colts.

Seven out of eight experts and one of two computers at ESPN also pick the Falcons in this game. Ditto Andrew Sharp at SB Nation. Albert Breer and Pete Prisco both pick the Falcons as well. With so many picking the Falcons, they have to win, right?

Getty ImagesPeter King took the Bills to win and cover the three-point spread. Then again, he is counting on Chandler to once again be the difference in this game when he been the difference exactly once in his career.
ESPN seems extremely confident that the Bills’ 34-point win was no fluke, with all eight of their human experts, and two non-human experts, taking Buffalo. CBSSports.com wasn’t quite as sure, taking the Raiders in 3-2 decision among their five experts. Pete Prisco predicted a 10-point win for the Silver and Black, citing their tenacious defense and McFadden’s big opening performance.

Experts are calling this week’s matchup at MetLife Stadium anything but close, however, starting with SB Nation’s Andrew Sharp, who took the Jets and the 10-point spread.
Peter King agreed, predicting a 17-point win for the Jets. His only advice to the Jaguars?

Those don’t exactly sound like the kind of words you’d attach to a team you picked to win by 10 points, but that’s exactly what King did. SB Nation’s Andrew Sharp voiced similar levels of concern, while also picking the Cowboys.
It’s hard to see the same level of conflict at CBS, where all five experts picked the Cowboys, or at ESPN, where 8 of 10 went with Dallas.

Getty ImagesThe Lions are one of the biggest points favorites in Vegas this week, but that didn’t stop SB Nation’s Andrew Sharp from taking Detroit and the 9-point spread at Ford Field. He also officially placed Todd Haley on notice.
ESPN agreed, making the Lions one of eight unanimous winners across their panel of human experts. Accuscore took the Lions as well, predicting a push on the point-spread with a final score of 28.0-19.2.

SB Nation’s Andrew Sharp says he picking the Vikings, but it’s pretty clear that he’s doing so with some significant reservations:
Other experts seem similar conflicted. The crew over at ESPN is almost split, with three of their eight human prognosticators going with the Vikings and their two computers splitting their vote. CBS is a little less torn, although they are going in the opposite direction as four of their five experts are going with the Bucs. Peter King, too, is just a little too skeeved out by McNabb’s performance, picking the Bucs to win in a rout.

Getty ImagesIt’s rare that the expert community comes together in the kind of unanimity that seems to be coalescing around the Washington Redskins this week. That these people seem to be so impressed by a team led by none other than Rex Grossman is a bit of a shock to the system.
The reason? Well, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King seems to sum it up almost perfectly while picking the Redskins to win 30-24:
