Romo’s punctured lung has reportedly healed and dealing with the rib injury he has is generally a matter of pain tolerance. For that, ESPN’s Ed Werder reports, Romo will take a painkiller injection for Monday’s game and give it a go.
He’s expected to start the game against the Redskins, Werder reports.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier this week, citing a person close to Romo, that he definitely wanted to give it a go and planned to play.
His other injury was a cracked rib and that’s something that is usually a pain management issue, which means a pain killer injection help him work through that.

However, the diagnosis of a punctured lung implies that a small amount of air has escaped from Romo’s injured lung into his chest cavity, and if the leak does not close spontaneously, it could lead to a collapsed lung and serious side effects if not treated emergently.
A punctured lung refers to a situation in which the lung is pierced, most commonly due to trauma such as from a fractured rib. An imaging study, such as an x-ray, CT scan, or MRI, will usually show air in the pleural space of the chest, which is located between the wall of the chest cavity and the lung. If the puncture site is small enough, it can spontaneously heal in a matter of hours or days, and any air that has escaped from the lung is absorbed and dissipates in the pleural space.

ESPN Dallas reported on Monday morning that Romo suffered from a cracked rib and now ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has more: Romo also has a punctured lung.
We should know more about Romo’s status throughout the week. The Cowboys will practice on Wednesday through Friday and they’ll have to announce Romo’s game status by Friday.
