In a sure sign the balance of power in the NFC North has shifted, the Detroit Lions are road favorites against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3.
With a better general manager (Martin Mayhew) and head coach (Jim Schwartz) in place, the Lions have used their futility in previous seasons to build a talented front four and an offense that is stocked with weapons that a (finally) healthy Matthew Stafford has used early season Top 10 ranking. Stafford, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, has completed 65.3 percent of his 72 pass attempts for 599 yards and his seven touchdowns have him tied with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for the league lead.
All eyes figure to be on how the Lions deep and active front handles fares against Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who leads the NFC with 218 yards through Week 2. Since entering the league four seasons ago, Peterson has averaged 101.8 yards per game against the Lions, his highest rushing yardage production against any opponent. 20 of Peterson’s 123 career receptions have also come against Detroit.
